Sounding the SOS:

A series of Webinars with districts across Michigan who describe how they are managing the changes forced by Michigan's school funding crisis

Grand Ledge Public Schools: One district's story of reform and hope

Interview with Dr. Steve Matthews, Grand Ledge Public Schools
http://masb.na5.acrobat.com/p45025934/ (recorded 12.3.09)

This one-hour Webinar features superintendent Steve Matthews and the Community Engagement and planning process his district has undertaken to re-structure its operations around its mission, goals, and current financial forecast. Steve was joined and interviewed by Kelly Rossman-McKinney, APR, a Grand Ledge parent and CEO of the Rossman Group.

Editor's Note: At around 4:17 minutes, viewers will notice a gap in the recording caused by technical difficulties at the time of recording. The missed 3.5 minutes included mostly introductions, and will not significantly diminish the value of the message. The interview resumes as Kelly is introducing her experience with Grand Ledge's  community-wide meeting that drew more than 800 people to hear about a proposed restructuring plan that was the result of a year-long community engagement process. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact one of the presenters using the links at the end of the Webinar.

Join superintendent Leonard Rezmierski and assistant superintendent Mary Kay Gallagher as they describe the series of community forums that will help shape the steep cuts the district will be forced to implement as early as second-semester 2009-10 and continuing through 2010-11. Learn how this community engagement process is mobilizing the community to action, and is already becoming a model that neighboring districts will adapt.
